Recent Changes That May Affect Your 2012-13 Federal Pell Grant

A recent change in the law limits the total lifetime amount of Pell Grant funding a student may receive to the equivalent of twelve (12) full-time semesters or six (6) years.   This change affects all Pell Grant eligible students beginning with the 2012-13 award year.

If you received an email from the Federal Student Aid division of the U.S. Department of Education and/or from the Financial Aid Office, then you are either close to or have already exceeded the total in lifetime Pell Grant funding for which you are eligible.

If you have received more than five (5) years of Pell Grant funding, then you will not be eligible to receive a full Pell Grant award for the 2012-13 award year.

If you have already received at least six (6) years of Pell Grant funding, then you will be ineligible for a Pell Grant award for the 2012-13 award year. Please note that you may still be eligible for other federal, state and institutional financial aid.
