Financial Aid for Study Abroad

College

Did you know that your financial aid can travel with you?

The majority of ASU financial aid and most scholarships can still apply to semester and year-long study abroad programs. Exchange study abroad programs during the fall or spring semesters can be very affordable. Typically, for summer study abroad, the type of aid available for students to study abroad will be in the form of loans.

Early planning for study abroad helps you make cost-effective decisions and allows you to prepare finances through saving, scholarships, and financial aid. Securing your financial aid for study abroad is a process that requires working with several offices. But early planning – at least 6 months to a year – will greatly lessen any challenges you may face.

Begin now by…

  • Researching opportunities to study abroad that meet the requirements of your degree,
  • Informing the OIED of your interest and completing the forms this office may require,
  • Filing the FAFSA applicable to the academic year of your study abroad as early as possible,
  • Visiting your financial aid counselor to determine your eligibility for study abroad funding,
  • Being involved in the process from start to finish,
  • Making sure the Financial Aid Office receives the data needed to complete your timely offer of aid, and
  • Completing the few required Financial Aid forms for study abroad.

Your active participation can produce a financial aid award package for your study abroad by:

July 15 for fall semester

Apr 15 for summer sessions

Nov 15 for spring semester
