Off-Campus housing and Financial Aid
Looking for Housing? This Resource Will Help!
Students who are considering moving off-campus, as well as those who currently live off-campus, often ask how living off-campus impacts their financial aid. We hope to answer your questions with the following information:
Q: I live on campus now, but want to move off campus next semester. Will I receive financial aid to pay for my off campus housing?
A: Yes. Eligible students can receive financial aid to help with food and housing costs, whether or not they live on campus. To be sure of the amount of financial aid you are eligible for, please regularly check your AppalNet account, or you may come in or call to speak with your financial aid counselor, located in 265 of the J.E.T. Building.
Q: I live off campus now and receive financial aid. Can I use my financial aid to pay for my off campus living expenses?
A: Yes. Financial aid for which you qualify will be placed on your student account. Once your tuition and fees and other required charges are deducted, you will receive a refund. This refund may be used to pay your off campus living expenses, and any other educationally related expense. Remember, you must let the Student Accounts Office know how you want your refund paid (direct deposit, mailed, etc.).
Q: Can a financial aid counselor verify to my rental agency that I will be receiving enough financial aid to pay my rent?
A: Because the rental agreement is between the student and the rental agency, financial aid counselors are not allowed to provide such verification. You may access your financial aid information at any time through your AppalNet account, but do exercise caution in who you turn your confidential information over to.
