Health and Safety

It is the policy of Appalachian State University to publish by October 1st of each school year an annual security report that informs current students and employees of its safety and security policies, procedures and practices. Our annual report will also disclose statistics from the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings or property either owned or controlled by the University and owned or controlled by student organizations recognized by the University, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention

The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA) and Part 86 of the Department of Education’s General Administrative Regulations require institutions of higher education to certify that they have developed and implemented drug and alcohol abuse education and prevention programs.

Appalachian maintains a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program (DAAPP) that is available on the university’s website and distributed annually to students and employees.

Additionally, students are notified of penalties associated with drug-related offenses in the student code of conduct
