Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows you to be automatically considered for federal, state and university financial aid.

Whether you're a first-time student or a returning Mountaineer, you will need to apply or reapply for financial aid every year. Filling out the FAFSA is free.

Steps to Apply for Financial Aid

1. Apply for admission to App State

Visit Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Admissions to learn about the application process, deadlines and requirements.

2. Complete the FAFSA

Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) allows you to be automatically considered for federal, state and App State financial aid. Find out more at our FAFSA information page or get started today.

Be prepared

Before you get started, you will need to have access to the following items for yourself or your contributor(s):

  • IRS W-2 and Form 1040
  • 2022 Tax returns
  • Records of untaxed income and assets

You can apply anytime!  Completing the FAFSA by the priority date gives you first consideration for need-based assistance.

3. Apply for scholarships

Search for scholarships that fit your pursuits and supplement your aid package. Incoming students are automatically considered for most App State scholarships when applying for admission by the Early Action deadline (Nov. 1).

4. Monitor your AppalNet account for any additional requirements or missing documents.

Check your AppalNet to check if we have received your FAFSA. If received, your FAFSA requirement will be marked as satisfied under the Financial Aid Tab.

5. Receive a financial aid offer

You will receive your award notification in your App State email. Learn more about understanding your offer.
